FAQ

How do I register?

1. Email Lisa Abshere at lisa.abshere@gvccschoolofballet.com to find out space availability in the class you want to register. Remember, children need to be 4 years old and if a child is over 7, with no ballet experience, register for Level I.

2. Download registration form, fill out, include a check made to Lisa Abshere for September Tuition and the $30 registration fee and mail to:
Lisa Abshere, 558 Via Rueda, S.B., Ca. 93110
Note: You will not be registered in the class if one of the 2 fees is missing.

3. Classes begin August 30. 2010

What does the student wear?

The required uniform is posted under each of the divisions.

Where do I buy ballet clothes?

Harlequin's Theatrical Supply on lower State St and online from Discount Dance Supply.

Can I watch the class?

Only the first one as your child adjusts to her/his new environment.

Are there performances?

Yes, Pre-Primary and Primary A perform in “The Nutcracker Tutu Suite” December 18 at 1:30pm at the GVCC. Primary B-Advanced performs in the full length “The Nutcracker” at San Marcos HS December 4 & 5, 2010.

All levels perform together at San Marcos HS for the Spring Performance.

Are there costume fees?

Yes, Pre-Primary and Primary A-$20 for a tutu and headpiece due September 15th for “The Nutcracker Tutu Suite” at the GVCC. For “The Nutcracker” at SMHS due September 15th: Primary B-Level II-$58, Level III $60, Level IV-INT. $86, Advanced Class $115.

Spring Performance Costumes fees: Pre-Primary –Level II $58, Levels IV-VI $86, Intermediate/Advanced Class $115.

All costume fees are non refundable. Pre-Primary-Level II keep their costumes, Level III-Advanced rent their costumes.

If I do not pay for a costume, is it assumed I do not plan to have my child participate in performing?
No. Most of the time a costume is ordered for the number of students who are registered in the class. It is assumed you will pay the fee. If you do not plan to participate, please communicate that to Lisa Abshere directly well before the costume fee deadline.

Is an admission fee charged at the performances?

Yes, except “The Nutcracker Tutu Suite” is free admission.

Can I make up a class?

Yes, but on a different day. There are not refunds for missed class. Remember, enrollment is not based on attendance.

Is tuition due monthly?

Yes, on the 15th of the month prior to lessons given. You will not be billed. Late fee is $15.
Payment for the month’s tuition is due 2 weeks prior to the start of the month, on the 15th.

How are handouts given to the parents at class?

No, handouts and reminders are emailed to the parents directly. Be sure you have a working email that accepts emails from lisa.abshere@gvccschoolofballet.com

All handouts are posted on the website.

What are the school holidays?

We follow the academic public school calendar unless otherwise noted.

Can I skip classes one month and return the next and have retained my space?

No. Once you do not pay tuition for any month you are dropped and a waitlist student is enrolled in your space.

If my child stops ballet and wants to return the following year, what would be their level?

In most cases if not all, the child returns to the level they left in order to complete the technique introduced in the level.

Can my child bring a friend with them to class to observe?

Yes, but it must be prearranged a head of time.

Do you offer Independent Study P.E. to the pre-professional division?

Yes. It requires an application and a $35 fee.

Do I need to re-register each year?

Yes. Students generally move to the next level yearly unless otherwise noted.

Do parents have to buy tickets to see their child perform?

Yes, the ticket proceeds go to pay for the theater costs. Tuition pays for the teacher’s time during rehearsal and performances.

Do I have to sell a certain number of tickets?

No, but it is appreciated if a family buys 8 tickets.

Do I have to volunteer to help at the performances?

It is very helpful if a parent pays to watch one day and help out behind the scenes the next. The parents that are asked to volunteer during the performances are in ballet levels Primary B-Advanced.

Are cameras and video cameras allowed backstage at anytime?

No, only the school historian is allowed to take no flash photos backstage. Parents can take all the flash photos they want from the audience during Dress Rehearsal. No flash photography during the performances.

Do you have a videographer during the performances?

Yes, Performance Memories.

Do you do school photos?

Yes, twice a year on the Saturday after the performances. The photos are optional and start at $29 for a package. We use Emily Hart-Roberts Photography. The photos will be delivered to your home for an extra charge or you can pick them up at Emily Hart-Roberts Photography.
